UNicompartmental Knee Replacement

If osteoarthritic degeneration is limited to solely the medial aspect of the knee, UKR can be a fantastic way to return patients back to their normal way of life with less trauma than a total knee replacement. UKR's have a fixed or a gliding mobile bearing an example of which can be seen highlighted in the images above.  The top 2 images show the bearing nicely situated 2 days after surgery. The vast majority of these UKR's give great outcomes without major complications but unfortunately that isn't the case here. 5 weeks post op our patient slipped and forced her knee into full flexion causing a sharp pain and inability to weight bear. The bottom two images show that the mobile bearing has been displaced posteriorly causing a lack of congruency to the prosthesis resulting in pain and reduced weight bearing tolerance. The patient was readmitted for a minor procedure to revise the bearing and made a good recovery, returning to full ADLs 3 weeks after.

Here we are flicking through sections from a shoulder arthrogram. Can you spot the injury? MRI arthrograms are often utilised by clinicians to attempt to get a clearer picture of the integrity of the glenoid labrum.
Full case study and the resulting surgical repair and rehabilitation are depicted in detail in our Rotator Cuff Injury Course.

Fifa 11+ Injury prevention programme

6/7/2020

One of many prevention programmes but one of our favourites as it can be performed in just 15-30 minutes with minimal equipment. Research has shown that the Fifa 11+ programme can not only reduce ACL injury up to 50% but also improves speed, jump height and reduces risk of other lower limb injuries. Set up your cones at 5 metre intervals and away you go! This video shows the warm up. Parts 2 and 3 and a whole lot more resources on ACL prevention can be found in our ACL course
